My golden morning routine that actually works

Are you a morning person? Sometimes I feel like I’m neither a morning nor an evening person, however, mornings are special to me and they have become even more special over the years. To me, it’s an opportunity to give myself something before I start giving to everyone else, ticking off all to-do’s, going to work etc. I know that maybe not all people are morning persons, but maybe that’s because you’re not giving yourself what you need to enjoy your mornings? About 3 years ago, I read the book Miracle Morning by Hal Elrod, and it really changed my perspective on mornings and made me finetune my routine. And the best thing about it, it doesn’t have to take much time at all – you can adjust it to whatever time you have. So, if you haven’t read the book, I highly recommend you to do so. I promise you it will be worth it.

With that, I thought it could be fun to share my morning routine as I always love to hear from others how they structure their mornings. I have a specific routine that I try to follow Monday-Friday (on weekends I tend to flow a bit more). If I skip it fully, I can feel it throughout the day – a feeling of not filling my cup first and not feeling energized for the day. So, here it follows:

I wake up at 06:00. I’ve been feeling tired lately, so I tend to snooze for about 10 min (I know you shouldn’t, but I enjoy it 😉). I take on my workout gear, wash my face, scrape my tongue (a must) and then the routine starts.

  1. LEMON WATER: I drink a big glass of warm lemon water to hydrate myself after the night. Drinking warm lemon water is also scientifically proven to help detoxifying the body. And we sure want to give our bodies the best we can right?
  2. MEDITATION: Meditation has been tough for me, but giving myself a few minutes of stillness helps me to tune into my body. I normally just lean into a 5 minute Youtube meditation, but I’m also on the hunt for some good meditation apps. If you have any suggestions, please let me know 😃
  3. WORKOUT: Most of the days, I do a 30 min workout at home, normally pilates or yoga. Some days I go to the gym and in those cases, my workout is around 45 min, however, the majority of the days I go for a quick sweat on the mat at home. My absolute favorite is The Pilates Class by Jaqui Kingswell. I’m on my second subscription now and I’m absolutely loving the quick burns and the variety of classes on the platform.
  4. JOURNAL: I take my journal from The Head Plan and follow the daily prompts such as my intention for the day, my top 3 priorities and my wellness and self care actions for the day. Sometimes I also take a few minute to free write in my journal, just to let my thoughts out.

Once I’m ready with this routine, I shower and get ready for the day. All in all, step 1-4 normally takes me 1 hour, sometimes less. Do I do all of these steps everyday? The answer is no. I’m also human, but I try. And doing one of the things is better than doing nothing. If you only have 5 minutes for yourself, maybe you start with a 5 min meditation and then you can build from there. Find what works for you and have fun while experimenting. And last but not least, don’t forget that giving yourself a good start to the morning starts already in the night. Make sure that you go to bed on time so you will get the hours you need to start the morning refreshed 😃

What does your morning routine look like? Would love to hear and get inspired!

Lots of love ❤
