As the air turns crisp and the leaves begin to change, autumn invites us to slow down, cozy up, and savor life’s little moments. This season has so many things to offer and it’s the perfect season to romanticize your everyday routines and embrace a softer pace of life. In my opinion, autumn really invites us to romanticize life in the small little things, and I wanted to share some of my key tips of how to do this to make the most of this magical time of year.
1. Create a Cozy Morning Ritual
Autumn mornings are perfect for quiet and mindful starts. Swap out your regular routine for something soothing: light a scented candle, brew a cup of cinnamon-spiced tea or coffee, and wrap yourself in a soft blanket. Take a few moments to journal, meditate, or simply enjoy the calm before the day begins.
2. Embrace Seasonal Comfort Foods
Autumn is the season of comfort food. Think warm soups, roasted vegetables, and baked treats like apple pies and pumpkin or banana bread. Try experimenting with seasonal ingredients like butternut squash, apples, brussel sprouts and sweet potatoes in your meals. Last weekend I prepared a big batch of granola and homemade apple sauce and it was such a nice activity and left me with lovely and healthy treats throughout the week. Cooking can really become a mindful practice, grounding you in the season’s natural rhythms.
3. Layer Up for Long Walks in Nature
With the leaves crunching beneath your feet and the colors of fall all around, there’s nothing quite like an autumn walk. Layer up in cozy sweaters, scarves, and boots, and take a stroll in a nearby park or forest. Nature in autumn feels like a painting—take time to soak in the beauty, breathe deeply, and feel present.
4. Savor a Warm Drink Ritual
Treat yourself to a ritual of making warm drinks like hot chocolate, matcha latte, or golden milk. You can enhance this ritual by using a favorite mug of yours or experimenting with new recipes. Each sip can remind you to slow down and savor the present moment. Make sure to turn the moment into a time to be fully present, both when you prepare the drink and actually savor it.
5. Decorate Your Space with Seasonal Touches
Bring the beauty of autumn into your home. Fill your space with seasonal decorations like pumpkins, dried flowers, or soft autumnal hues. Layer your furniture with knitted blankets, cushions, and lots of candles to make your space feel like a warm retreat. I personally also love to swap my bed linens into darker color during autumn – think New England style with dark greens, navy and brown and I never want to leave the bed 😉
6. Get Lost in a Good Book
Cuddling up with a great book as the rain taps on the window is a classic autumn experience. Choose books that immerse you in cozy worlds, perhaps a romance set in the countryside or an inspirational self-help read that feeds your soul. Some of my recent favorites are It ends with us / It starts with us by Colleen Hoover and The wealth money can’t buy by Robin Sharma.
7. Practice Gratitude for the Little Things
To me, autumn reminds us of change and the beauty in slowing down. Take time to reflect on the small pleasures in your life – a warm fire, a crisp walk, a good meal. Write down three things you’re grateful for every day to keep your focus on the abundance around you, even as the trees shed their leaves.
Hope you enjoyed the list. Do you have any additions? Would love to hear!
Lots of love ❤
